BOUNTY OF LIFE LESSONS FROM THE PLANTER POTS ON THE GRILLS OF THE CORRIDOR!!!
NURTURE THE NATURE
Every opportunity at St. Britto’s Academy is created to relate learning to live according to the vision of Dr. Vimala Rani Britto, the Founder and Correspondent of St. Britto’s Group of Institutions One of the ventures, in line with this, is the growing and nurturing of plants by the students.
An eco-initiative that targets a green world, self-sufficiency and sustainability is a welcome move that has ensured participation and involvement from the students and the teachers as well. Each child is entrusted with the responsibility of sowing a seed to grow a plant. The students bring varieties of seeds and herbs, shrubs, medicinal and ornamental plants of their choice to be sown/planted in the planters provided to them. This inculcates a sense of ownership as they label their pots with their name, class and section, water them regularly and monitor their growth. They also understand that the process of farming involves a lot of effort from the farmers. A feeling of respect is obviously infused in their mind for the farmers, taking note of the complexity of the food’s journey from the farm to the fork.
This venture enables the students from a very young age to remain patient, working towards the goal with perseverance when they personally experience that plants take time to grow. Interdependence among different members of the ecosystem is unconsciously internalised by the students. They attain a sense of achievement and feel gratified when they look at their plants maturing. Hence the adage, NATURE IS THE GREATEST TEACHER is substantiated.
How about the thought of garnishing the dishes prepared by our little chefs in the cookery lab coming from these herbs? Sounds great???

“JACK OF ALL TRADES, MASTER OF MANY”!
NURTURING THE YOUNG POETS AND THE AUTHORS
Education for holistic development is the tagline at St. Britto’s Academy. We equip the students and empower them for situational awareness and intelligence, which is the need of the hour.
. Golden brain activation is done to ensure that both the logical and creative domains are simultaneously developed.
Scope for creative expression- verbal and non-verbal is pivotal in the path of progress for individuals in general and the student community in particular. One such opportunity was explored by the Brittoian, right from grade 1, by way of composing poems of different genres like acrostic, free verse, haiku, couplet, diamante, concrete, cinquain, tanka, lune, limerick, sonnets, shape poems, autobiography poems, colour poems and so on that enriched their literary creativity by unveiling their love for language. We do cater to a heterogeneous group of learners with different learning styles, highlighting MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCE.
A sense of accomplishment was experienced from the perspective of the creators, especially the WORD SMART students. This, for sure prepared them for intra- school competitions that were conducted in the school. Exposing students to unravel the challenges that they come across when engaged in areas of planning and execution has paved the way for a high level of self-confidence and creation, in the form or poem, short stories and novels too, few of which are published. The poems written by students are also narrated by budding voice artists of the school and the artistic representation is done by the digi-art techies in collaboration with the shutterbugs of St. Britto’s.
We feel elated and proud to share that an alumnus of St. Britto’s Academy, has published an anthology of her own poems.

PLATTER DELIGHT- CULINARIANS OF ST. BRITTO’S ACADEMY
‘VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE’
Who doesn’t want to try vagaries in lip-smacking dishes, feasting one’s taste buds?
The cookery club of St. Britto’s Academy executes this in action equipping the budding chefs to plan and prepare different recipes pertaining to the course of the meal, starting from appetizers to desserts.
Cookery sessions are being transacted to the students based on their interests with a defined course plan in a professional setup to ensure meaningful and enthusiastic participation.
They enjoy the entire duration of the cookery class allotted under the TALENT HUNT category once a week which is embedded in the timetable. Deciding the menu, bringing the necessary ingredients, sharing work in the process of cooking, writing the recipe, presenting the cooked dish, cleaning the cookery unit, and so on are meticulously planned by the students in groups under the guidance of the teachers. What a fantabulous way to teach basic concepts of math, science in cooking, language skills, self-worth, confidence, planning, organisation, responsibility, teamwork, healthy eating habits, etc. Kids don’t depend on their moms for snacks all the time in the evening when they get back home. They are all set to manage on their own by preparing a quick sandwich and a refreshing milkshake.
Glad that we are imparting life-oriented education!
WHAT NEXT?? …. THE DAY ARRIVES, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, A LIFE SKILL LEARNT!! SOUNDS ASTONISHING, ISN’T IT?
