Independence Day is celebrated on August 15 every year to commemorate India’s freedom from British rule in 1947. After independence, India became the world’s largest democracy after the UK Parliament passed the Indian Independence Act, 1947, transferring legislative sovereignty to the Indian Constituent Assembly. Independence Day also marks the anniversary of undivided India’s partition into India and Pakistan.
On the eve of India’s independence, Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime minister, had said in his ‘Tryst with destiny’ speech: “At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom.”
Every year, St. Britto’s students add youthful energy to the grand event, after nearly two years of the pandemic, students were excited and actively participated in the event and celebrated our 75th Independence Day with full joy and enthusiasm.
St. Britto’s Academy Channelized the creativity of students through various programs such as welcome speech, Tamil and Hindi speech, cherishing the significance of the day followed by dance and mime related to nation and independence.
The celebration of the 75th Independence Day started at 9.30 am with a grand opening reflecting the theme of “Aspire, act and achieve” hosted by the Chief Guest of the day Mr.D. Wesley Ebenezer along with our Principal and Sr.Vice principal. The program started with the compering by Dharsainii and Lilian Swarnaratna of class XI, proceeded with God’s blessing through a prayer song by the School choir, followed by bible reading by Vimal Ryan Raj from class V B and prayer by Alfida from class VIII A.
Then the Cultural program started with Venkatraman of class VIII B delivering the welcome address, Hashvitha of class V A spoke about the significance of the day, and Renulekha of class VIII expressed her thoughts through a Tamil speech about Independence day.
The students of classes VIII and X impressed us through their admirable and captivating patriotic dance performance. The enthusiasm continued with a Hindi speech by Harini of class VIII B followed by a Mime performance by class XI students on important social issues and revolutionary technical solutions which highlighted the phenomenal uses of AI humanoid robots.
Ms Mary Vasantha Kumari ,Principal honoured the chief guest with a small memento and our chief guest of the day shared his thoughts which revived and rejuvenated the patriotism among us.
Our benevolent Principal who inspires the young mind addressed the gathering by presenting her views about the theme “ Act, Aspire and Achieve” and also her vision for the development of the nation. To express gratitude Mukttesh of class VIIIC proposed the vote of thanks, which finally ended with honour to the National Anthem. The program held till 11.30 am reminded us of the struggle, blood and sacrifice that our freedom fighters did to give us this Independence life. Jai Hind!
